Applicants with Work and Life Experience

Applicants who left secondary education more than two years previously and who have not undertaken VET or higher education study since may be considered for direct entry. This includes applicants who have completed Steiner, Montessori or home school curriculums. To qualify, applicants must be 20 years of age as at 1 March in the year of intake and meet one or more of the following:

  • Applicants who have completed at least two years of relevant work experience may be considered for direct entry. Applicants must provide evidence of their work experience, including duties undertaken and years of experience, and they must demonstrate that they have the academic capability to undertake undergraduate studies. The Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) may be required*.
  • Completion of STAT with scores of at least 150 in the Multiple Choice section and 150 in the Written English section*.
  • Completion of two Year 12 WACE, HSC or equivalent exams, with a result equivalent to the Indicative ATAR/Selection Rank listed under Secondary Education section above.

*STAT results must have been obtained within the last three calendar years in order to be considered (e.g. for 2024 admission, STAT results obtained in 2023, 2022 or 2021 can be considered).

Applications for Bachelor of Biomedical Science, as an assured pathway into medicine, will be via UAC for Sydney applicants, and TISC for Fremantle applicants, where you can preference The University of Notre Dame Australia.

Entry pathways

Students in this assured pathway must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 each semester throughout their undergraduate Advanced Biomedical Science (Honours) degree in order to be eligible to apply for the program in order to be eligible to apply for the Doctor of Medicine (NSW) program.

If you do not meet these requirements you will need to sit the Academic IELTS exam and achieve a score of at least 7.0 overall and 7.0 in each sub-section (reading, writing, listening and speaking) to qualify for entry into the Master of Nursing (Mental Health). This applies to Permanent Residents and Australian citizens whose first language is not English and have not completed two years full-time academic study in Australia. Specific Program Requirements for Admission

To be eligible for admission to the program, an applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • Completion of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited 4-year sequence of study in Psychology within the last 10 years, with a minimum of Second-Class Honours Division B or equivalent;
  • Be eligible for provisional registration as a psychologist (NB students must obtain and provide evidence of provisional registration from the Psychology Board of Australia before commencing the program and maintain it over the course of their program);
  • Demonstrate suitability to undertake the course as evidence by satisfactory:
    • Referee reports (1 x academic and 1 x professional) via Psychology Reference Portal;
    • CV and personal statement;
    • For short-listed candidates, interview with the selection committee.

More information

  • Referee reports: Submission of two academic or two professional referees is not acceptable.
  • CV: Maximum length of two A4 pages.
  • Personal statement: Maximum one A4 page providing a reflective account of the candidate's motivation as well as why they believe they are well-suited to join the program and pursue a career as a psychologist.

Students who have obtained their qualifications outside Australia must have their qualifications assessed prior to applying for this program and prior to applying for registration with the psychology board of Australia. The Australian psychological society (APS) provides this assessment service for the board and the assessment assists the board in determining if the student's qualifications are equivalent to an 'approved qualification.' However, the final decision on equivalence rests with the board.
