Overview

At The University of Notre Dame Australia, School of Medicine, we are dedicated to the provision of education that is designed and presented in collaboration with the health sector to support the translation of learning into practice. The Graduate Certificate in Health Leadership provides a unique opportunity to study, network and learn from experts across the professions. The WA Health, Institute for Health Leadership (2019), leadership model focuses on 'Courageous, values-aligned, collaborative and systems-focused' leaders, which will form the foundations of this program.

This program is for all Australian health professionals and is offered in sponsorship with the Department of Health.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Certificate in Health Leadership, applicants must meet the following specific requirements:

  • As a minimum qualification, a recognised Bachelor degree in a health profession; or
  • A Bachelor degree in another (non-health) area with evidence of specific professional experience in health; or
  • Evidence of a senior management or leadership role in the health sector.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Health Leadership graduates will be able to:

  1. Effectively apply management and leadership theories underpinning work practice within the health context
  2. Analyse contemporary issues within health professional leadership and their significant influence on management and leadership practice
  3. Interpret governance and risk as applied to the work context in consideration of management and leadership roles and responsibilities
  4. Employ critical reflection to encourage on-going learning to maintain and improve professional knowledge and skills
  5. Apply oral presentation and report writing skills and apply these for the dissemination of project findings

Course structure

Program summary

The graduate certificate will be delivered through a series of weekly online master classes to engage both academic and health industry speakers to provide an engaging, thought provoking and safe space to explore the complexities of health and health leadership. Master classes provide a space for the sharing of ideas, exploring solutions, networking and building communities of interest.

The program is available as a multimode study program, with all learning activities available online and fully accessible through live, recorded, virtual sessions - making the program flexible and accessible for adult learners who may be engaged in shift work, or working across various interstate time zones.
