This course provides you with the current skills and knowledge to fulfill the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and practice nursing in various settings. A significant part of the course includes clinical placements to develop practical skills and attributes.

Entry Requirements

You will be required to:

  • Undertake Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) Literacy & Numeracy assessment testing, and achieve exit level score of 3 (working at level 4) in Language, Literacy and Numeracy. If you have provided a formal English Language result (in the list below) you are only required to complete the numeracy component.

English language requirements

  1. English language test pathway
    You must have successfully completed one of the following English language tests:
    • An IELTS score (academic) of 7.0 with no band score less than 7.0 excluding writing where the minimum is 6.5; or
    • Occupational English Test (OET) with minimum score of 'B' in each components excluding writing where the minimum is C+; or
    • PTE Academic with a minimum overall score of 66 and a minimum score of 66 in each component excluding writing where the minimum is 56; or
    • TOEFL iBT at a minimum overall score of 94 with minimum scores as follows reading 24, listening 24, speaking 23 and writing 24; or
    • Cambridge (C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency) with a minimum overall score of 185 and a minimum score of 185 in each component excluding writing where the minimum is 176
  2. Primary language pathway
    You must have attended and satisfactorily completed at least six years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English in any of the following countries or territories: Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Indian Ocean Territory, Canada, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guernsey, Guyana, Isle of Man, Jamaica, Jersey, Malta, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom, United States of America, US Virgin Islands. At least 2 years of study must be between Years 7-12.

Academic results

You must have achieved the minimum of:

  • The equivalent of Australian Year 12 with a pass in Year 11 Maths; or
  • Completion of the 52895WA Certificate IV in Preparation for Health and Nursing Studies.

Additional requirements

Please note there are additional costs to pay when enrolling in the Diploma of Nursing:

  • You will have text books to purchase and details of these will be provided at orientation.
  • You may be required to complete a health check (approx. $200)*
  • You may require immunisations and/or provide evidence of vaccinations - COVID-19, Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella and Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (DTP) record of vaccination (cost will vary depending on your doctor and what vaccinations are needed)*
  • Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) Screening Test (if required) ($37)*
  • Working With Children Check (WWCC) ($11)*
  • National Police Certificate - through WA Police website only ($57.60)
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check ($11)
  • WA Health Department Criminal History Record Check (no cost if applied for post Police Certificate)*
  • Uniform - Scrub Top and Pants ($70.50 per set) and closed in slip resistant shoes. Details of these will be given at orientation.

*Costs for vaccinations and clearances may vary.

Please also be aware that you must be 18 years of age, or turning 18 years of age in the first semester, in order to fulfil work placement requirements of this course.
