This course is designed for educators to enhance their knowledge of contemporary educational practices, offering specialisations in Innovative Learning and Teaching, STEM Education, and Cultural Diversity. It includes a capstone project and may lead to doctoral studies.

Entry Requirements

Applicants require an education/teaching degree assessed as being the equivalent of a four-year Australian degree (normally a Bachelor of Education or a four-year combined/double education degree e.g. BSc/BEd); OR a three-year degree in a non-education discipline (e.g. Arts, Science, Commerce) plus a postgraduate teaching qualification with a minimum duration of one-year, such as a Graduate Diploma in Education or Master of Teaching.

Graduate Diploma

Curtin's one-year Graduate Diploma in Education is designed for individuals with existing degrees who wish to become teachers. The course includes practical placements and prepares students for registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.

Entry Requirements

Admission requires an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall score of 7.5, with a score no less than 7 in Writing and Reading and no less than 8 in Speaking and Listening. Not all English competency equivalents will be accepted for entry into this course, as they do not meet the higher English criteria or they do not include assessment of reading, writing, listening and speaking in English. Students will be required to have a current and valid Working with Children clearance as required in the state or country in which the placement provider is located. They will also need to meet any other relevant State requirements before engaging in any work with children or professional experience. If students have any doubt about their eligibility to acquire these clearances they should contact the local Teacher Registration Authority.

MJRP-EDUSC Secondary Education Major (GradDipEdu): To be eligible for entry into the Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary Education Major) applicants need to have completed a Bachelor degree or its equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution with studies relevant to the teaching areas offered at Curtin. Specifically a teaching area equivalent to a total of three-quarters of a year of successful EFTSL, comprising of sequential discipline study. This equates to six units, with no more than two at first-year level and no fewer than two units at third-year level. Entry to this course will not be possible based on work experience only.

MJRP-EDUPR Primary Education Major (GradDipEdu): To be eligible for entry into the Graduate Diploma in Education (Primary Education) applicants need to have completed a Bachelor degree or its equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution with studies equivalent to at least one year FTE in an area relevant to one or more learning areas of the primary curriculum.

Masters (Coursework)

Speech pathologists diagnose and treat communication impairments and swallowing disorders. This course combines theoretical knowledge with clinical practice, preparing students for a career in speech pathology. It includes fieldwork opportunities and emphasizes evidence-based practice.

Entry Requirements

An honours degree or a bachelor degree with a course weighted average of 65 per cent.

Applications with CWA <65 will be considered should the applicant demonstrate equivalent prior learning, including appropriate professional experience, and document this clearly in the CV and personal statement that are submitted at the time of application.

Evidence of studies in human biology at university level is essential. Without this background, you will have to complete additional units in this area before commencing the course.

You will be required to obtain First Aid certification in additional to a number of police clearances and immunisations upon entering this course.

Applicants will also submit a personal statement that reflects relevant work experience and knowledge of the profession.

Masters (Coursework)

The Master of Teaching is designed for individuals seeking initial teacher education qualifications to register as teachers in Australia or countries recognizing Australian qualifications. It offers majors in Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary Education, with intensive study periods and professional placements.

Entry Requirements

Admission criteria

You must have a bachelor degree or equivalent from a recognised institution, with at least one year of study in an area relating to early years learning, development and care.

Applicants will also be required to engage in assessment of non-academic attributes in order to reflect on their suitability for teaching. Students will be responsible for meeting any costs associated with this assessment process.

You also need to meet a minimum standard of English Language Proficiency, as you are required to teach others in English during your professional experience placements.

Entry to this course will not be possible based on work experience alone. This is consistent with current practice for courses in the School of Education. This course is not suitable for qualified Secondary teachers wishing to change their subject specialisation.
