Curtin University Courses

Applicants require an education/teaching degree assessed as being the equivalent of a four-year Australian degree (normally a Bachelor of Education or a four-year combined/double education degree e.g. BSc/BEd); OR a three-year degree in a non-education discipline (e.g. Arts, Science, Commerce) plus a postgraduate teaching qualification with a minimum duration of one-year, such as a Graduate Diploma in Education or Master of Teaching.

Admission requires an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall score of 7.5, with a score no less than 7 in Writing and Reading and no less than 8 in Speaking and Listening. Not all English competency equivalents will be accepted for entry into this course, as they do not meet the higher English criteria or they do not include assessment of reading, writing, listening and speaking in English. Students will be required to have a current and valid Working with Children clearance as required in the state or country in which the placement provider is located. They will also need to meet any other relevant State requirements before engaging in any work with children or professional experience. If students have any doubt about their eligibility to acquire these clearances they should contact the local Teacher Registration Authority.

MJRP-EDUSC Secondary Education Major (GradDipEdu): To be eligible for entry into the Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary Education Major) applicants need to have completed a Bachelor degree or its equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution with studies relevant to the teaching areas offered at Curtin. Specifically a teaching area equivalent to a total of three-quarters of a year of successful EFTSL, comprising of sequential discipline study. This equates to six units, with no more than two at first-year level and no fewer than two units at third-year level. Entry to this course will not be possible based on work experience only.

MJRP-EDUPR Primary Education Major (GradDipEdu): To be eligible for entry into the Graduate Diploma in Education (Primary Education) applicants need to have completed a Bachelor degree or its equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution with studies equivalent to at least one year FTE in an area relevant to one or more learning areas of the primary curriculum.

An honours degree or a bachelor degree with a course weighted average of 65 per cent.

Applications with CWA <65 will be considered should the applicant demonstrate equivalent prior learning, including appropriate professional experience, and document this clearly in the CV and personal statement that are submitted at the time of application.

Evidence of studies in human biology at university level is essential. Without this background, you will have to complete additional units in this area before commencing the course.

You will be required to obtain First Aid certification in additional to a number of police clearances and immunisations upon entering this course.

Applicants will also submit a personal statement that reflects relevant work experience and knowledge of the profession.

Ranking and Selection Process

1. Applicants will be ranked and selected based on published entry requirements and entire academic record.
2. Applicants must provide all required documents and be assessed as eligible to be included in the ranking for an offer.
3. Meeting the minimum entry requirements and course specific prerequisites, does not guarantee selection.
4. In the event the course reaches capacity the University reserves the right not to proceed with subsequent offer rounds.
