The Master of Midwifery at Curtin University is a unique postgraduate course in Australia that does not require a nursing qualification for entry. It combines theoretical knowledge with over 800 hours of supervised clinical practice, preparing students for professional midwifery roles. Graduates are eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

Entry Requirements

All applicants must hold a recognised Bachelor's degree or graduate degree. Entry to this course is competitive and a strong academic achievement is required.

It is essential that applicants have successfully completed a human biology related unit with an anatomy and physiology focus at tertiary level. Domestic students who have not completed a tertiary unit in the above mentioned area will be able to study the unit through the Health Sciences Graduate Entry Foundation course. It is a condition of enrolment that applicants are screened for, and immunised against contracting a number of infectious illnesses prior to the commencement of the clinical placement. Applicants are required to demonstrate a capacity to carry out independent research and have adequate training and ability to pursue the proposed research course. Generally, this may be a master degree or bachelor degree with first or upper second class honours. See the Section 3.2.1 of the HDR admission policy for detailed information.

Ranking and Selection Process

Entry to this course is competitive, with limited places available. Offers will be made in the following distinct rounds. Please submit your application and documentation as soon as possible.

  • Round 1: 28 June 2024 - Eligible applicants who applied prior to 23 June 2024 will be ranked and assessed for offer.
  • Round 2: 30 August 2024 - Eligible applicants who applied prior to 25 August 2024 will be ranked and assessed for offer.
  • Round 3: 31 October 2024 - Eligible applicants who applied prior to 26 October 2024 will be ranked and assessed for offer.
  • Round 4: 3 December 2024 - Eligible applicants who applied prior to 29 November 2024 will be ranked and assessed for offer.

Applicants will be ranked and selected based on published entry requirements and entire academic record. Applicants must provide all required documents and be assessed as eligible to be included in the ranking for an offer. Meeting the minimum entry requirements and course specific prerequisites, does not guarantee selection. Applicants with outstanding results will only be considered for an offer upon submission of the results.
