Admission criteria

You must have a relevant bachelor degree completed, including at least one year of full-time studies in social sciences (studies of the individual and society), or equivalent prior learning, including appropriate professional experience. Entry into this course is competitive. If your prior degree is not considered relevant, you may be required to undertake prerequisite bridging units before commencing the program.

You will be required to submit supplementary information with your application. Please refer to the application requirements below.

There are limited Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) available.

Ranking and Selection Process

1. Applicants will be ranked and selected based on published entry requirements and entire academic record.
2. Applicants must provide all required documents and be assessed as eligible to be included in the ranking for an offer.
3. Meeting the minimum entry requirements and course specific prerequisites, does not guarantee selection.
4. In the event the course reaches capacity the University reserves the right not to proceed with subsequent offer rounds.

• 1 relevant referee report
• A personal statement (up to 500 words) which addresses the following criteria:
• Why you want to be considered for the course
• Your knowledge of individuals, society and social construction
• Your experience with diverse populations
• A police check, a Working with Children Check, and proof of relevant vaccinations will be required for field placement.

Admission criteria

Applicants are required to demonstrate a capacity to carry out independent research and have adequate training and ability to pursue the proposed research course. Generally, this may be a master degree or bachelor degree with first or upper second class honours. See the Section 3.2.1 of the HDR admission policy for detailed information.

Generally, a bachelor degree with first or second class honours or a postgraduate diploma.

• Certificate IV + English Competency

The certificate IV is the minimum requirement for university entry. It qualifies you for entry to Curtin courses with a 70 ATAR. You must also meet English language proficiency and check that you meet any extra subject prerequisites (where applicable).

• STAT entry

Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)

The Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) is a national test for those who don't meet university admission criteria. STAT can be used to meet entry criteria for some courses, or as a way to satisfy Curtin's English proficiency requirements.

STAT is not accepted as an entry pathway, but may be used to demonstrate English language proficiency.

Admission criteria

What you need in order to get into this course. There are different pathway options depending on your level of work and education experience.

1. Applicants who will transition to the proposed course after completion of the GIA Certificate in Applied Corporate Governance (100-credit course) have to meet the admission criteria of GIA outlined below (extracted from GIA Admissions Guidelines).
2. Applicants require a relevant bachelor degree or higher degree from an Australian University or an equivalent qualification from an approved higher education provider in Australia (as defined by Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA)) or recognised overseas university or higher education provider. Curtin students should refer to the Course Structure Note to identify relevant undergraduate degrees. Applicants external to Curtin will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
3. Professional memberships and professional experience alone do not qualify as degree equivalent for entry into a postgraduate course.

Applicants seeking entry who do not hold a four year Engineering degree are required to first complete the one-year Graduate Diploma in Professional Engineering.
