Overview

Metallurgical engineers are responsible for the design, development, optimisation and management of metallurgical and mineral processing plants. As such, they are key professionals in the minerals and mining industry. This degree offers knowledge and understanding of scientific principles in chemistry and engineering, with a focus on process and minerals engineering. All students also undertake project units and units in Engineering professional practice to build essential independence, research and management skills. Alongside, students in this double degree take a science major in Earth Sciences. Earth scientists are essential to the resources industry and analyse Earth's composition and function. The Earth Science Major provides a body of knowledge around our planet and a range of skills necessary for a career in wide ranging industries dealing with energy transitions, climate and environmental challenges and sustainable use of Earth materials. Students in this major have access to a broad range of option units enabling them to create a learning pathway personalised to their interests, whether than is core geology, or a broader interdisciplinary understanding of our planet. Core units in ore deposits and mineral exploration connect foundational geology to the earth resources that are central to mineral processing and metallurgy.
