It covers intermediate and advanced topics in mechanical engineering, preparing students for careers in the field. This course is designed for graduates from a four-year Engineering undergraduate degree not accredited by Engineers Australia in a related discipline.
The course is not suitable for graduates of a four-year undergraduate degree, with Engineers Australia accreditation in the same discipline. Those holding an EA accredited qualification and seeking a masters level qualification in the same discipline are encouraged to consider applying for entry to the Master of Philosophy or Master of Engineering Management.
Applicants seeking entry who do not hold a four year Engineering degree are required to first complete the one-year Graduate Diploma in Professional Engineering.
Mechanical engineering involves the analysis, understanding, design and manufacture of components, devices and machines, often together with heat and fluid flows, that are integrated to create engineering systems.
In this major, you will study intermediate and advanced topics that will permit entry to a career in contemporary mechanical engineering and its future development. The curriculum is designed to allow you to understand how mechanical engineering combines with the other major engineering disciplines to produce products and systems.
During the course, you will gain at least 12 weeks of exposure to engineering professional practice and keep a formal log book to record your experience. During your final-year project, you will have the opportunity to apply advanced knowledge and technologies to research and design open-ended major mechanical-engineering challenge.
