About this course

Overview

The Industrial Mathematics Specialisation is designed to provide students with the necessary skills in mathematics and the ability to apply them to problems arising in industry. The Specialisation builds upon foundational knowledge in units of calculus and linear algebra into areas of industrial modelling and optimisation, logistic and supply chain management, warehouse design and operation, queuing and simulation modelling, and transportation networks. Industry-based units will help you to experience real applications. Graduates are well-equipped with the tools to address the key problems that need to be solved to improve the efficiency and productivity of industry.

What you will learn

What you'll learn

  • have demonstrated narrower knowledge and understanding in a further field of study that is typically at a level that, whilst supported by advanced textbooks, includes some aspects that will be informed by knowledge of the forefront of Industrial Mathematics, GC1
  • can apply their narrower knowledge and understanding in a manner that indicates a professional approach to the field, and have competencies typically demonstrated through devising and sustaining arguments (to both specialist and non-specialist audiences) and solving problems within Industrial Mathematics, including using digital technologies, GC2, GC3
  • can gather and interpret relevant data within Industrial Mathematics to inform judgements that include reflection on relevant social, scientific, or ethical issues, including being aware of the diversity of international perspectives associated with Industrial Mathematics, and how these impact upon the practice of the field, GC4, GC5
  • display a high standard of professional behaviour, including effective time management, both independently and as a team member, GC6
