About this course

Overview

Environmental Engineering offers an opportunity for students to learn the application of basic science and technology to protect people from adverse environmental impacts, improve environmental quality and conserve natural resources. It involves the design of water supply management, wastewater treatment, solid waste management, air pollution control and land remediation. Environmental engineering practice requires a strong background in engineering mathematics, chemistry, fluid mechanics and environmental science. In addition, the students learn geotechnical principles, process principles, energy management and life-cycle assessment to develop solutions for environmental engineering problems. In the final year, the environmental engineering students build their research skills in the research project and employ their problem-solving skills with the design projects. Alongside, students in this double degree take a science major in Earth Sciences. Earth scientists are essential to the resources industry, as well as in environmental science and analyse Earth's composition and function. The Earth Science Major provides a body of knowledge around our planet and a range of skills necessary for a career in wide ranging industries dealing with energy transitions, climate and environmental challenges and sustainable use of Earth materials. Students in this major have access to a broad range of option units enabling them to create a learning pathway personalised to their interests, whether that is core geology, or a broader interdisciplinary understanding of our planet.
