English Language Bridging Course

The English Language Bridging course is one of the most popular courses at Curtin English preparing students for direct entry into Curtin University. This course is designed to develop English Language Proficiency, academic literacy and specific language areas for your next course of study. The course also aims to develop employability skills for the workplace.

• develop and transfer generic academic literacy and mediation skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking to their own discipline
• analyse and evaluate own and other's ideas in order to develop an academic voice in written and spoken English
• develop English language proficiency applying knowledge of grammatical structures, vocabulary and phonology in order to write and speak, accurate, meaningful and comprehensible English
• develop knowledge of and apply academic language and study skills to suit the conventions of a variety of local disciplines
• develop and reflect on the learning process to develop autonomous learning strategies and life-long skills
• show an awareness of current global issues and how they impact on local cultures
• recognise the importance of various cultural and linguistic perspectives including those of Indigenous Australians
• apply mediation skills to show comprehension of reading and listening sources to support writing and speaking
• develop English language proficiency in listening and reading in order to comprehend a variety of complex, academic listening and reading sources
