This specialisation is developed for students wishing to understand design principles and processes surrounding fashion design, including product and style development and promotion.
It addresses a variety of design philosophies through exploration of creative ways of thinking and the application of the design process.
You'll explore the processes of fashion design and illustration through 2-dimensional media. It provides an introduction to the principles of designing garments for the body and the 2-dimensional presentation of ideas. You'll be introduced to the concepts of cool hunting and trend spotting within the context of contemporary culture.
You'll research major international social, cultural and economic factors affecting current and future changes in consumer behaviour and analyse the process of trend emergence and dissemination, looking at both street style, sub-cultural fashions and high-end couture and designer driven fashions.
You'll have the option of studying the unit Clothing in Context - the Business of Fashion, in which you'll participate in a textile design exhibition and/or fashion parade; or undertaking a work-based project in which you'll engage with an external organisation on a problem specific to their needs.
