Applicants seeking entry who do not hold a four year Engineering degree are required to first complete the one-year Graduate Diploma in Professional Engineering.
This major covers civil engineering materials, analysis and design principles, numerical methods, geotechnical principles and foundation, water resources engineering and management, and structural health monitoring. It also includes risk analysis and management, construction cost and project management, and environmental engineering management.
The laboratory facilities allow you to test the strength and other properties of different materials and structures. These include testing of construction materials such as concrete, steel, soil and rocks, and examination of structural behaviour under static and dynamic loading in earthquake engineering and pavement/geotechnology.
During the course, you will gain at least 12 weeks of exposure to engineering professional practice and keep a formal log book to record your experience. In your final year, you will complete a major research or design project that will draw upon and integrate the knowledge and skills you attained through the course.
