Bachelor
The Engineering Foundation Year (EFY) is a preparatory program for the BEng (Hons) course, focusing on foundational engineering skills, problem-solving, and sustainability principles. It allows students to choose their engineering discipline in the second year and meet prerequisites for specialisations.
The Engineering Foundation Year (EFY) serves as the pre-major for the BEng (Hons) course. The EFY is designed to develop foundational engineering skills, including mathematical modelling, computer programming and problem-solving abilities. Students also learn to understand and solve global and local engineering challenges. With an emphasis on skills development, understanding and applying Indigenous STEM and sustainability principles in engineering applications is also a key focus of the EFY educational design.
Upon completion of EFY, students can choose to proceed in their second year to one of the Engineering disciplines. Students are not required to choose a discipline at the start of the degree but must make this decision either before or after the EFY. Completion of EFY will also facilitate students to meet the stipulated prerequisites for the engineering 'specialisations' offered by the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
