What you will learn

The University of Notre Dame Australia recognises the value of life experience as well as academic
achievement. That is why we have designed a special program for Enrolled Nurses who wish to
upgrade their qualifications to become Registered Nurses. If you already hold a Diploma HLT51607,
HLT51612 or HLT54115 you are exempt from taking certain courses in the formal curriculum so you
can complete the Bachelor of Nursing in two years rather than the normal three.

The program, which is divided into four broad study streams, uses problem-solving and an evidence-
based approach to teaching. Theoretical and practical components are integrated. Subjects covered
include anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, ethics, clinical reasoning, health
communications, paediatrics and adolescent health. You will also choose two electives. Options include: Rural and Remote Health, Global Health, Maternal Care, Advanced Mental Health and Advanced Wound Care.

In line with the program's hands-on approach, you will undertake approximately 400 hours of clinical
practice each year. The settings include hospitals, primary health care and community health care
facilities, where you will be mentored by experienced registered nurses and other health care
professionals. Apart from the practical skills you will also acquire a solid academic foundation - ideal
if you wish to pursue further studies or acquire specialist nursing skills.
