About this course

This course is focused on the rapidly growing health and human services sector and equips participants with the skills to advance their careers and reach executive, senior leadership and managerial roles in the sector. The Graduate Certificate of Health Leadership and Management is designed for graduates of non-business disciplines and also for experienced professionals who did not undertake an undergraduate degree. Candidates are either already working in the health sector or are seeking to make a career transition into healthcare and human services delivery, but have not been exposed to formal learning in business disciplines pertinent to the modern health sector such as strategic management and innovation in health, leadership in healthcare, change and transformation in healthcare organisations and healthcare systems, policy and governance. The course is suitable for those with both a business and a clinical background working in the health sector including medical doctors, nurses, allied health, para-medics, pharmacologists, and pathologists as well as hospital and human services administration and support services. The course is designed for those professionals seeking to enhance their skillset in decision-making and leadership and management roles, with a specific focus on making a difference in the health and community sector. You'll study under teachers who have had both academic and practical business experience of the health sector at a high level. Several of those teaching actively work with health organisations as leadership consultants and strategic health service planners, change consultants and leadership mentors. Senior leaders from the health sector deliver guest presentations and masterclasses into the program. The Graduate Certificate in Health Leadership and Management comprises four core units which can be credited towards the Flexible MBA at UWA (which requires completion of a further eight units for a total of twelve units).
