The Undergraduate Certificate in Science offers students the opportunity to experience University-level studies in the Sciences. Students learn and develop skills in scientific investigation, critical thinking and problem-solving, as well as presenting information and arguments.

What you will learn

Students can acquire new skills, add to their existing qualifications and boost their employability with an Undergraduate Certificate in Science. It is also a great way to gain an additional teaching specialisation for Education graduates. Besides being useful for future employment, an Undergraduate Certificate in Science is a pathway to further study of higher awards, such as a Diploma or Bachelor degree.

The Undergraduate Certificate in Science is designed for students who:

  • Would like to add value to their existing professional experience and qualifications by gaining skills in general science disciplines.
  • Are adding a second (or third) teaching specialisation to an Education qualification.
  • Are returning to or entering university and trialling whether they would like to proceed with further study in Science or Education.
  • Would like a pathway to further study into a Bachelor of Science, a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Education (Primary or Secondary) providing minimum entry requirements are met.

Course structure

The Undergraduate Certificate in Science consists of four courses, including:

Any of the following courses:

  • SCIE1001 Fundamentals of Science, Research and Communication
  • SCIE1000 Introduction to Chemistry
  • SCIE1150 Introduction to Biological Sciences

Plus, any course from the Bachelor of Science (where course pre-requisites allow).
