Description
This course provides existing emergency department triage nurses with a refresher of the Australasian Triage Scale (ATS) guidelines and provides participants with an opportunity to workshop various patient presentations. The course will involve discussion of ATS category allocation and justification of scoring for presentations which will be workshopped to provide transparency of clinical reasoning that occurs during the triage assessment. Participants will be asked to discuss barriers and enablers to triaging in their departments, medicolegal issues, and management of waiting room patients to provide robust discussion and assist others to learn from their experiences.
The course consists of eight hours online workshop time with an optional additional eight hours of pre-course activities for those who choose to complete it. Pre-course activity access and online meeting details will be emailed to participants approximately two weeks prior to the course date. Pre-course activity access will be deactivated the day after the course.
This course is suitable for registered nurses working in the emergency department in the triage role using the ATS. The course is designed for nurses with triage experience however, if you do not have this experience and would like to attend out of interest, you are welcome.
