2024 Dates: 27th May, 11th November
Time: 8:30am - 2:30pm (AWST)
Cost: $600 (inc GST)
CPD hours: 8 hours
Location: Fremantle Campus, WA

This course aims to provide participants with an opportunity to develop their knowledge and practical skills with the application of back slabs for acute injury immobilisation. Four back slabs are covered in this course: short arm, thumb spica, ulnar gutter and below knee. This course focuses on the application and care of the back slab and does not cover diagnosis of fracture types. This requires participants to be directed as to which back slab is required to be applied by a suitably trained medical officer in clinical practice.

This course provides a learning opportunity for participants and is not tested, therefore, does not determine competence. Determination of competence and additional supervision requirements are required at the facility level as per local policy.

The course consists of two hours pre-course activities and a six-hour workshop where participants will apply back slabs to each other. Pre-course activity access and course location details will be emailed to participants approximately two weeks in advance. Pre-course activity access will be deactivated the day after the course.

This course is suitable for any health professionals with potential requirement to apply a back slab in the acute clinical setting (nurses, doctors, rural clinicians, worksite medics) under the direction of an appropriately trained medical officer.

This course can be delivered at your local facility. To discuss this, please contact postgraduatenursing@nd.edu.au or call (08) 9433 0205
