This course will cover the ongoing care and monitoring requirements of the ventilated patient. This course is designed for those working in critical care environments providing moderate to long term care of these patients (HDU, ICU, EDs experiencing delays in transfer to ICU). The course will cover assessment and monitoring of the patient undergoing mechanical ventilation, the principles of multiple ventilation modes that can be applied by experienced clinicians to enhance the support and synchrony of mechanical ventilation with the patient. Other supportive measures that enhance the care of these patients that will be discussed includes the use of sedative and paralytics infusions, haemodynamic support (inotropes and vasopressors that can be required due to mechanical ventilation pressures, use of sedatives or the condition that required ventilation),

The course consists of four hours of optional, online pre-course activities and an eight-hour webinar delivered online. Pre-course activity access and course location details will be emailed to participants approximately two weeks in advance. Pre-course activity access will be deactivated three days after the course date.

This course is suitable for any healthcare professionals who provide moderate to long term care of mechanically ventilated patients (HDU, ICU, EDs experiencing delays in transfer to ICU). This course may be useful to ED clinicians who have completed the Airway Management and Mechanical Ventilation in the ED course where initial ED measures are covered.
