Are you a Health Professional looking to refresh and develop your skills?
Description
This two-day course focuses on developing advanced skills in managing deteriorating patients and cardiac arrest. The course is designed for healthcare professionals who would be expected to apply the skills taught as part of their clinical duties, to lead initial resuscitation, or to teach advanced resuscitation skills on a regular basis. Prior skills and competence in cardiopulmonary resuscitation is an essential prerequisite to attending the course. While the course covers advanced resuscitation skills, it is also designed to develop leadership and teamwork skills in managing such emergencies.
The adult advanced life support courses are standardised national courses accredited by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC), teaching evidence-based resuscitation guidelines and skills to healthcare professionals. As all co-badged courses in Australia are regulated by the ARC, the ALS course credentials are cross-recognised by the RC(UK), New Zealand Resuscitation Council (NZRC) and the European Resuscitation Council (ERC). ARC Courses provide the opportunity for interprofessional education to promote the knowledge, skills, attributes and attitudes in order to work together in an effective collaborative fashion. Certification for the advanced life support courses is valid for up to four years.
Candidates are posted a hard copy manual at least four weeks prior to the course to commence preparation for the eight-hour face-to-face component. Pre-course preparation time varies and is dependent on prior knowledge and experience and personal learning attributes.
The Advanced Life Support Level 2 (ALS2) course is ideal for those healthcare professionals who are frequently involved in the response to a deteriorating patient or to a patient in cardiac arrest. Appropriate participants include medical doctors, nurses and paramedics working in acute and critical care areas (e.g. ED, CCU, ICU, HDU, acute admissions units) or in the resuscitation /medical emergency team.
