The Australian College of Critical Care Nurses (ACCCN) Adult Advanced Life Support (ALS) two-day course is hosted by Majarlin Kimberley Centre for Remote Health. This course is ideal for healthcare professionals who are frequently involved in the response to a deteriorating patient or to a patient in cardiac arrest requiring BLS and ALS in a clinical setting. The course is based on the latest Australian Resuscitation Council Statements on Basic and Advanced Life Support and current ANZCOR guidelines providing national certification for both BLS and ALS. The course incorporates theoretical lectures, clinical skill stations and scenario-based training. Successful completion of this course requires a satisfactory completion of a simulated ALS scenario and a pass mark of 80% in the multiple-choice question (MCQ) exam paper. Annual recertification and frequent review of ALS practice in line with ANZCOR guidelines is recommended.
The course consists of pre-course activities including an electronic course manual, e-learning material and an online pre-course quiz followed by the two-day face to face course. Candidates will be expected to have completed pre-reading of the ACCCN Adult ALS manual and completed the online quiz prior to the commencement of the course. It is essential to complete registration with ACCCN to receive access to the course learning material and pre-course quiz. A link to register with ACCCN will be provided after successful registration and payment.
This course is suitable for health professional with little or no experience/knowledge of ALS or those wanting a comprehensive update. A total of 16 CPD hours are assigned to this course (based on 12 hours program contact and four hours self-directed learning).
