The Certificate II in Animal Care is a general qualification for entry into sectors of the animal care and management industry, where workers provide care for animals in workplaces such as animal shelters, kennels, catteries, sanctuaries, and veterinary clinics. At this level, work takes place under direct supervision within clearly defined guidelines for work activities.

This is delivered via online learning. You are guided through your learnings and supported through interactive lessons. This form of learning is not self-paced, in that you are required to meet assessment due dates.

You are required to find a work placement in an animal care facility, shelter, pet shop or Veterinary clinic, where there is exposure to a wide range of animals with various needs as well being able to undertake WHS and infection control components. You will need access to both cats and dogs to care for.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this unit of competency. You do not need to have any prior learning in this field, you can be a complete novice. This nationally recognised course provides you with the foundations to progress on to further study areas.
