About this course

Start your career in community services with this qualification to learn the skills to find employment in both residential and in-home care settings within the aged care industry.

Gain the knowledge and skills to effectively work and communicate with a diverse range of clients and team members, and understand the legal and ethical requirements and obligations to provide care for older people. You will learn about infection control measures, and also gain a theoretical understanding of healthy body systems.

During your studies you will develop a range of practical skills including how to use mobility aids, shower and support the physical needs of your clients. In addition, you will learn how to understand dementia, and recognise and report the risk of falls. This course provides a pathway to a rewarding, personally satisfying career in the aged care sector.

Entry requirements

  • An IELTS score (academic) of 6.0 with no band score less than 5.0 or equivalent.

  • Completion of the equivalent of Australian Year 10.

  • Students must be 18 years of age prior to commencing this course, in order to participate in the work placement.

    To achieve this qualification, students must demonstrate competency in 15 units. These 15 units are comprised of 9 core units and 6 elective units as listed below. Elective units listed below have been selected in consultation with industry.

    Students who enrol into this qualification will be eligible for credit transfer of the units that they have already achieved. Fees paid by international students are set on a commercial basis and are paid as a whole of course fee - no refund will apply to credit transfers.
