About this course

With this qualification you can develop the foundation skills for a successful career in the role of an educator in an early childhood setting.

In this program you will learn how to use a range of skills and techniques in the workplace, including using discretion and judgement within the context of established policies and procedures. Upon graduation you will have the skills to work independently or under the guidance of others, and may find employment in centre-based care, family day care, pre-schools or kindergartens.

During this course you will gain the abilities to interact and establish nurturing relationships with young children, work within the legal and ethical requirements, and ensure children's health and safety is prioritised. In addition, you will learn how to provide activities, opportunities and environments that support the development, learning and wellbeing of children from a range of backgrounds and cultures.

As part of this qualification you will undertake work placement where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have learned.

Entry requirements

  • An IELTS score (Academic) of 6.0 with no band score less than 6.0 or equivalent.

  • Completion of the equivalent of Australian Year 10.

  • This course requires immunisations and/or proof of vaccination status before attending mandatory work placement. Costs and vaccine requirements may vary depending on your placement centre and/or doctor's fee schedule. Please follow instructions/advice provided to you during enrolment/orientation. You will not be able to complete your course if these requirements are not met.

    To achieve this qualification, students must demonstrate competency in 17 units. These 17 are comprised of 15 core units and 2 elective units. Elective units listed below have been selected in consultation with industry.

    Students who enrol into this qualification will be eligible for credit transfer of the units that they have already achieved. Fees paid by international students are set on a commercial basis and are paid as a whole of course fee - no refund will apply to credit transfers.
