About this course

Course Overview

The Open Cabler Registration course serves as an excellent introduction for individuals interested in pursuing a career in the telecommunications sector. It is specifically designed to meet the ACMA Open Cabler Registration Rule requirements, as outlined by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).

Completing Open Cabler Registration Skill Set course allows telecommunications technicians to legally install and maintain cabling for telephone, fire alarms, and security systems* across various customer premises. It supersedes the previous AUSTEL and BCL licence courses. Technicians working with data, coaxial, or fibre optic cables will also need to obtain the relevant endorsements in addition to their Open Cabler Registration.

Graduates of this course who can demonstrate 360 hours of practical telecommunications cabling experience and who meet all entry requirements will be equipped with the competencies needed to apply for an ACMA-recognised Open Cabler Registration.

Note: Depending on the type of work and the State or Territory, a separate Security Licence may be required to perform security-related installations.

Important: Open Cabling Registration is not issued by the National Institute of Technology. It must be obtained through one of the five ACMA-accredited Open Cabler Registration registrars. Additional information about the registration process is available from these registrars.
