Murdoch University Courses

Admission to the Master degree is available to students who have a Bachelor's degree in any area.

Recognised Bachelor's degree in any field, or equivalent training, or satisfactory preparation for the course through previous study or professional experience.

An AQF Level 7 Bachelor's degree or higher, or satisfactory preparation/professional experience as determined by the Academic Chair .

Recognised Bachelor's degree (AQF Level 7) or higher, or equivalent training, or satisfactory preparation for the course through previous study or professional experience. Some of the units taken assume some prior knowledge, details of which are given in the description of each unit in the Handbook. The most common of these is the high school Physics prerequisite for units such as Energy in Society, Energy Management, and Energy Systems. Some students may therefore need to complete additional prerequisite units.

University level (AQF Level 7) qualification in Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, "Other Natural and Physical Sciences" or relevant Health related fields (Medical, Veterinary or Dental Studies, Nursing, Pharmacy or "Other Health"). Majors in Criminology will be considered if they contain units in a Biological or Chemical Sciences (i.e. Crime Science) at the discretion of the Academic Chair. Or 2 years or more relevant professional experience or training subject to the approval of the Academic Chair.

Bachelor of Science in a cognate discipline (AQF Level 7). Other AQF Level 7 qualifications will be considered if they are broadly relevant to food science and contain units in biological or chemical sciences, at the discretion of the Academic Chair. OR Successful completion of the requirements for C1170 (Graduate Certificate in Food Science).

Completion of a Bachelor Degree (AQF Level 7) or equivalent in the same discipline or cognate area with a Distinction average; subject to availability of a suitable supervisor and approval by the Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching) of the School.

Recognised Bachelor's degree or higher and evidence of two years of work experience; or satisfactory preparation for the course through informal or non-formal learning and/or professional experiences subject to the approval of the Academic Chair.

If the first degree is not related to this area of study then at least two years of relevant work/life experience is required. Completion of the Murdoch University Graduate Diploma in Creative Arts Therapies OR Comparable programs from other institutions (e.g. Graduate Diploma in Creative Arts Therapies) may be eligible following assessment of previous course content by the Academic chair. Applicants from institutions other than Murdoch will also need to provide: Academic records - certificate of marks, Reference of suitability from previous institution, Provision of Unit guides for assessment of content and learning outcomes of nominated units. The selection process for all applicants includes a creative practice portfolio and interviews for shortlisted candidates. A maximum of 24 credit points of recognised prior learning may be granted to those applications who have completed equivalent coursework. If the recognised prior learning is equivalent to 12 credit points or less an amended offer for the Graduate Diploma in Creative Arts Therapies may be made. Applications will be assessed by the Academic Chair and suitable applicants will be offered an interview.

Majors in Criminology or other non-cognate degrees that do not contain units in a Biological or Chemical Science cannot gain direct entry to the M1292 because they have not yet demonstrated scientific competency at tertiary level. These students can apply for consideration by the Academic Chair to enrol in the Graduate Certificate in Forensic Science (Professional Practice) (C1131) or Graduate Diploma in Forensic Science (Professional Practice) (G1085). Successfully completing 12 credit points in either of these courses will provide students with evidence of scientific competency required for subsequent admission to the M1292. Both C1131 and G1085 are nested programs within the M1292, thus students who successfully complete units within C1131 or G1085 will receive credit for those units if they transfer to M1292.
