Entry requirements

To be eligible for admission to the program an applicant will be:

  • Aged 18 years or over at the time of commencement
  • At an Elementary (CEFR level A2) level or above based on placement test results
  • Meet current eligibility requirements for a student visa

The Course Coordinator is responsible for selection of candidates for admission in accordance with the Student Selection and Admission Policy and Procedure for Courses Delivered to Overseas Students and relevant guidelines.

Attendance requirements

Students studying in Australia on a student visa must meet all attendance requirements (minimum 80% attendance). If a student is ill and unable to attend class, they must get a medical certificate from a qualified medical practitioner and provide this to their class teacher. Attendance is monitored by the college and students receive warning letters if their attendance is at risk of dropping.

Our ELICOS General English course is an excellent starting point for students who wish to improve their ability to communicate and understand the language clearly, whether for work, socialising or with the aim of completing further study. General English is suited to both short-term students (such as backpackers and tourists) as well as long-term students and those who wish to live and work in Australia.

English levels offered within the program include:

  • Elementary
  • Pre-intermediate
  • Intermediate
  • Upper-intermediate

Students intending to complete further study may opt to join our English of Academic Purposes (EAP) course.

How to apply

  • Application: Submit your online application by clicking "Apply Online" on the top right corner of the course page.
  • Interview: If you meet IHM's eligibility criteria you'll be contacted for an interview with an admissions consultant.
  • Offer Letter: If you're successful with the interview you'll be offered a place for the course.
  • Enrolment Fee: Once you sign the acceptance offer, an invoice will be issued for the course. You may be eligible for government funding, so please call our team to know more.
  • Confirmation of Admission: Once you've paid the enrollment fee, we'll send a confirmation of admission to you.
