Recent graduates of WAAPA’s Bachelor of Performing Arts (Performance Making) course, Mark, Donita, Jennifer and Rachel, tell us about the development of their respective shows, FIFO and Imelda from their humble origins as short undergraduate performance works to full-length theatrical seasons as part of the 2024 State of Play / Fringe World Festival and The Blue Room Theatre’s Summer Nights.
WAAPA supports the journey from student to emerging artist to professional theatre maker. Over three years, students in WAAPA’s Bachelor of Performing Arts course develop the range of skills needed to create original theatre works, including devising, writing, puppetry, directing, performance skills in acting, voice, and movement, and the practicalities of realising a production from initial concept pitch through to closing night. WAAPA’s industry connections then helps these new works transition from student production to public performance.
