About this course

At ECU, we teach the art and craft of storytelling.

We explore the global environment for screen production, the ethics, the dynamics, the opportunities and the challenges of a professional career as a screen storyteller.

You'll have the opportunity to work in professional environments on short dramas, documentaries and episodic web-series in any of the following roles: producing, directing, screenwriting, cinematography, editing and sound.

The course will also develop your professional attributes to help you find, create and sustain meaningful work across your career.This includes opportunities for professional placements with leading production companies that will assist you in the transition into professional life.

Admission requirements you'll need to meet for this course.

  • The following course-specific admission requirements are mandatory and must be satisfied by all applicants. These requirements are in addition to or supersede the minimum requirements outlined within the Academic admission requirements band section below.

    All applicants are required to to meet the published entry requirements. Alternatively, applicants may apply with a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Screen Production or similar.

    Successful applicants with a Bachelor degree, or higher, with significant coursework in a related field, or the combination of relevant coursework and two years relevant professional experience, may seek reduced course duration by applying for recognition of prior learning (up to 60 credit points). Degrees with significant coursework (ie. a major) include: Screen Production, Film, Broadcast Media, Media Production.

    Degrees with relevant coursework and two years relevant professional experience include: Arts or Creative Industries with any major (other than those above) and at least two years of relevant experience in a Screen Industry role.

    Academic admission requirements (Band 6) may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

    • Bachelor degree; or
    • Equivalent prior learning including at least five years relevant professional experience.
  • English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

    • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
    • Bachelor degree from a country specified on the English Proficiency Bands page;
    • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
    • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience; or
    • Other tests, courses or programs defined on the English Proficiency Bands page.
