About this course

This nationally recognised course prepares performers with a range of knowledge and skills to enter the performing arts industry as a screen performance actor for roles in television and film productions.

On successful completion of the course, students will have combined screen acting, storytelling, and industry practice into a tangible performance skill; acquired a basic knowledge of camera operation and script analysis in the context of screen performance; and understand the communication and pre-professional skills necessary to audition for and perform roles in television and film.

Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level

This course has been accredited by ECU as an AQF Level 5 Diploma Award.

Admission requirements you'll need to meet for this course.

  • The following course-specific admission requirements are mandatory and must be satisfied by all applicants. These requirements are in addition to or supersede the minimum requirements outlined within the Academic admission requirements band section below.

    All applicants are required to attend an audition. Applicants must submit two different self-test auditions via a link, provide a one page personal statement, and a recent head shot. Additionally applicants must attend an interview. Short listed applicants will be interviewed either in person or by Skype if interstate. Additionally applicants must normally be turning at least 18 by 30th June the year of commencing the course. Alternatively applicants can provide some other form of evidence where the candidate demonstrates competence in screen, theatre performance, and/or acting skills at Certificate IV level.

    Academic admission requirements (Band 1) may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

    • Completion of Year 10 or equivalent.
  • English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

    • Year 10 English completion or equivalent.

  1. Analyse and plan approaches to technical problems or management/performance requirements.
  2. Effectively demonstrate the concepts, skills and knowledge required by a screen actor in rehearsal, performance and studio work.
  3. Evaluate information, using it to review self or others performance and planning purposes.
  4. Have a thorough understanding of the concepts, skills and knowledge required by a screen actor.
  5. Self-directed application of knowledge and skills, with substantial depth in some areas where judgment is required in planning and selecting appropriate equipment, services and techniques for self and others.
  6. Transfer and apply theoretical concepts and/or technical or creative skills to a range of situations.
  7. Understand and respond appropriately to terminology employed by the industry.
  8. Understanding of a broad knowledge base incorporating theoretical concepts, with substantial depth in some areas.
