In this phase of learning, the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline promotes teaching and learning that helps students to develop a broader understanding of the world in which they live. Students are encouraged to explore different ways of thinking and other world views, as they learn to become active participants in the development of their society and the world.

Students will become increasingly aware of the linkages between areas of learning and different fields of human endeavour. While students continue to study a broad range of learning areas, they are offered an increasing level of choice with respect to subjects and electives.
