ADF Careers Graduate Programs & Internships

  • Government & Public Service

Comprising the Navy, Army and Air Force, the Australian Defence Force is a modern, people-focused organisation and one of Australia's major employers. The ADF is one of the world's leading military organisations fulfilling key defensive roles as well as providing a range of peacetime services. With more than 250 different jobs ranging from medical, health and engineering, through to intelligence, aviation and security, you'll be sure to find a role that’s right for you.

In the ADF, you’ll be paid to undertake training, acquire new skills and gain specialist knowledge, then go on to receive a competitive salary with incredible benefits such as healthcare, accommodation and travel allowances, with ongoing training and leadership opportunities as you progress. You'll also experience an exciting new lifestyle where friends, sports and adventure play a huge part.

Join the ADF fully degree qualified and you'll hit the ground running, with a fast-track into a leadership role plus opportunities for further study. Whether you are a recent graduate considering your next move, or you are in the middle of your career, you'll be able to make more of your degree as an officer in the ADF. Your ADF career begins with world-class management and leadership training, preparing you to take command of Navy, Army or Air Force personnel. Then throughout your career, you'll be given opportunities for further study, specialisation and diversification, with the costs covered by the ADF.

Recruitment Process

What does the recruitment process involve?

The process includes 2 separate sessions. The first session is called a YOU (Your Opportunities Unlimited) Session, where you will discuss the roles available, undertake a Job Opportunities Assessment, and chat about your medical history. The second session involves more comprehensive interviews with a doctor, psychologist, and senior member of the ADF.

If you are applying for an officer role, you'll also be asked to attend an in-person or online Officer Selection Board, which is similar to a formal job interview.

You can find more information and interview tips on our ADF recruitment process page.
